Our Vision & Values

The Points LookoutThe Peter Francis Points Arboretum is an environmental model which reflects the time and dedication of a small community group, who saw the need to improve and preserve their local environment, and leave a valuable legacy.

In the Gringegalgona Landscape Zone of the Dundas Tablelands Bioregion it is estimated that only 79 hectares out of an original 22,000 of this EVC still exist. Most of this occurs along roadsides and in small unmanaged reserves.

The Arboretum management includes a program of preservation and enhancement of this threatened ecosystem, and is home to threatened flora species (Glycine latrobeana) and one threatened fauna species (Delma impar).

The Points community continues to gain knowledge of natural resource management, and understanding of just how little most Australians know of their natural surroundings. The central mission of The Peter Francis Points Arboretum is to raise awareness of the environment we live in, and educate about its preservation and enhancement.

The Vision

To develop an educational facility that empowers the community to embrace environment best practice, using The Peter Francis Points Arboretum as the focal point.

This ethic would be reflected in:

  1. The delivery of innovative education programs.
  2. A management plan for the Arboretum that prioritises the preservation and enhancement of ecosystem / habitat values.
  3. Promotion and implementation within the wider community by developing wildlife corridors / shelterbelts / biolinks that showcase the region as one with a strong environmental commitment.
